• ARTISTS 2025 •

ALEXIS TAYLOR
Alexis Taylor is best known as the voice of the electronica orchestra Hot Chip, but has also released five solo albums where he explores different musical landscapes. As a solo artist he is equally touching as impressive, with a sense for melodies that can bring forth associations of «One-man Beatles» Emitt Rhodes and a gentle Paul McCartney. In addition to being a sociable and sympathic person.

BARE EGILS SPELLEMANNSLAG
The surrealist Egil Hegerberg is found in countless musical constellations, including Bare Egil Band, Ikke Bare Bare Egil Band Band and Bare Bare Band. Here is his most traditional project, Bare Egils Spellemannslag, where he chants and sings his traditional folk songs, accompanied by fiddle and accordion from some of the finest traditional musicans in the country.

CHRISTIAN WINTHER
A sought-after guitar player and tireless collaborator on the Norwegian exploratory musical scene, described as 'among the guitar renewers, he is a kind of indie rock-auteur inside the frames of jazz and contemporary music.' He is joined by his partner Anja Lauvdal on stage, Lauvdal is an award-winning pianist and electronic artist.

DU & DU
Kjartan Kristiansen is one of the country's greatest song writers and guitar players, that many will know from the band DumDum Boys. In Du & Du he plays guitar and sings in a duo-format with Thomas Pettersen, drummer for quite a number of delicious bands. Du & Du did one of their first live performances at Visefestivalen two years ago, and return this year.

EUROS CHILDS
Euros Childs put Wales on the map long before Wrexham FC wound up on Disney+. First as front figure in the wonderful band Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, then he has delivered about 20 solo albums, and has now become a permanent fixture in Teenage Fanclub. Euros has been at Visefestivalen before, but this time he is joined by a fantastic live band.

I WAS A KING
The band from Egersund with Frode Strømstad and Anne Lise Frøkedal in front mark their 20-year anniversary this year. The band did their live debut at Visefestivalen in 2006, and have become frequent guests - to our pleasure. This year will serve previews from their forthcoming 10th album, along with a deep dive into their back catalogue, with nice musical guests on stage.

JONNY
The joined musical DNA of two of Britain's most gifted songwriters, Norman Blake and Euros Childs, Jonny put out their debut album in 2011, the same year they debuted at Visefestivalen. They deliver some irresistable hits, and when they add classics from their respective band's catalogues, and maybe a Joe Meek-tune, this is pure musical gold.

MALMIN MED ÅSHILD VETRHUS
Malmin plays folk music from Suldal and Bjerkreim, that they have learned from the old masters in the area through archival recordings. Sometimes they are as close to the originals as possible, while other places they have consciously dragged things in a different direction, interspersed conventional instruments from present time.

NAALJOS LJOM
Faithful to tonality, this tenacious duo from Stavanger honours folk music traditions without being scared of breaking conventions. Packed in a modern and good-sounding electronic landscape, Naaljos Ljom have revitalized folk music with their traditional microtone electro-acoustic dance music.

PETER PERRETT
It is not to be taken for granted that a man like the British rock legend Peter Perrett and his band shows up in Norway, so our best suggestion is to grab hold of this opportunity. This is not a sentimental walk down memory lane, but an artist with something to say, that on stage squeezes out every energy cell in his body.

RURAL TAPES
The solo project of producer Arne Kjelsrud Mathisen, who has released four albums and gotten good coverage in international music press since the debut album in 2021. MOJO described the project as a hybrid between Kraftwerk, Tortoise, Air and Serge Gainsbourg. The project comes in many forms, Rural Tapes live is often a quartet, but Kjelsrud Mathisen also performs solo.

SWEET BABOO
The alter-ego of Stephen Black, a Welsh musician that along with this solo project also performs with Euros Childs at this years Visefestivalen. His musical style has been described as a mixture of country and psychedelia - in other words quite unique, with a focus on poignant lyrics.

THE HIGH WATER MARKS
The High Water Marks is a trans-atlantic band connected to the Elephant 6-collective that we have talked a lot about for many years now. They have been active since 2003, and been very active the last couple of years, releasing one album after the other packed to the brink with fuzz-marinated pop pearls. At this years festival we get to experience Hilarie and Per Ole in a stripped-down duo-setting.

TRES COJONES
Tres Cojones do not play concerts. Tres Cojones operate in an absurd, wonderful and spaced parallell universe, where the audience gets sent into a cultural witch's cauldron you had no idea you loved being in until you ended up there. This is something quite different, in a one hundred percent cool way. This is something everyone who loves music have to experience.

VALKYRIEN ALLSTARS
Very cool band that plays very cool music. In an ideal world, that would adequately describe Valkyrien Allstars, without having to take the longer road of writing that Valkyrien Allstars play timeless and modern music in the same expression, and that they have melted rock, pop and folk music into an entirely unique musical landscape.

VRENGT
That there are new generations with healthy musical values sprouting up is something that brings us much pleasure. Vrengt is everything you want from an indie-band, and they sing in Norwegian! Their sound is marked by big contrasts and unexpected turns. They are a bit punky, quite poppy, pretty noisy, and very catchy, with thoughtful lyrics.

ØYVIND HOLM
In 1997, 100 copies of the Dipsomaniacs album "Bumble Bee Eyes" were released on vinyl, at the time in reality Øyvind Holm's solo project. They became a full-fledged band and released six critically-acclaimed albums before disbanding. In Egersund, Holm has promised to look in the rearview mirror, with a solid dose of Dipsomaniacs-songs, along with some newer tunes that fit in.

ANDREW RUMSEY
We managed to lure Andrew Rumsey to Egersund last Summer, where along with David Perry he conveyed his beautiful, timeless folk tunes, that can make us thinks of both Nick Drake and The Clientele. Warm and inspiring musicians we just had to meet again, and as such it is a pleasure to welcome Bishop Andrew Rumsey back to Egersund this Summer.

BENNY BORG
There are more than 10 000 Elvis-imitators in the world today. Benny Borg is not one of them, and that is part of the strength in his simple and placid Elvis-concert, "Where were you when Elvis died?" Where Elvis himself had a quite crew, black-dressed Benny Borg has only himself, his acoustic guitar and a bar stool. Still, his one-man show is technicolor and in widescreen format.

DAG VAGLE
The world's best artist that is not globally known, and the man with what must be the country's greatest voice. The quality of Vagle's own music is sky high, and in addition he is one of few in the world capable of interpreting artists such as Roy Orbison, Mickey Newbury, Townes Van Zandt or Tim Buckley in such a decent way that as listeners we forget to think of the originals.

ELLA MARIE
Ella Marie got her breakthrough in 2018, winning Stjernekamp on NRK, and has since used her platform to fight for Sami people's rights. Even if Ella Marie's music carries clear messages about Norwegianization of the Sami people and sorrow from loss of culture, her music is a celebration of strong Sami resilience and unity.

FØKKEFJORD
Six years after their last performance at Visefestivalen, the punkers from Flekkefjord are finally back with their characteristic mixture of dirty punk and extremely direct and politically agitating lyrics performed in their southern-Norwegian accent. This will be one of few chances to experience the band with musical help from Christian Witnther and Anja Lauvdal.

JAMIE PERRETT
As son of the punk legend Peter Perrett, who also plays Visefestivalen this year, music early became therapy and escape from reality for Jamie. He was a founding member of the legendary Babyshambles before that band fell apart, and since 2015 he has worked tightly with his father through his musical resurgence. Jamie's solo debut was in 2013.

KING HÜSKY
A name that should warm every heart that beats for pop music, extra much for thos with a weakness for guitars. Behind the name King Hüsky is Vidar Landa, most known as guitar player and one of the song writes in Kvelertak. On his own, there is quite a different temper, but this sounds incredibly good! In addition to his gift for great melodies, Vidar writes enormously poignant lyrics.

MORGONRODE
Is is no secret that Selman French and her projects is high on the list of things we like. Morgonrode operate in the breaking point between traditional folk music and improvisation headed towards jazz, done in a very tasty way. Very good music both on record and live on stage!

NORMAN BLAKE
An old friend of Visefestivalen, and the man behind some of the nicest pop music we can think of from the last decades. A few years ago he visited Visefestivalen with his band Teenage Fanclub (one of the best bands in the world, yeah), and this Summer he will show up all on his own, with an acoustic guitar and a song catalogue most would be envious of.

RICHARD DAWSON
A legendary artist from Newcastle, who is quite difficult to describe with words. But the first thing that struck us with Richard Dawson is that he writes quite amazingly good lyrics, he is an enormously cool guitar player, and he is not afraid of pushing the borders of musical genres.

SELMA FRENCH
Recently released her second album, that Dagens Næringsliv wrote that 'here we are dealing with Norway's new national treasure'! Which is something we think a lot that have seen Selma French at previous performances at Visefestivalen can attest to, whether with Masåva, Frøkedal & Familien, with Sean O'Hagan or as a solo artist. This year she also plays with the band Morgonrode and in Euros Childs' band.

THE CORDS
Two teenage sisters from the countryside in Scotland, who we have to presume have been bottle-fed quality music from birth. Now they are bringing the classic indie pop legacy forward, with irresistably melodious hooks, and talk of this band has already spread far beyond the reach of their native country.

THEA & THE WILD
Thea & The Wild melted many hearts during last year's Visefestival with their delicious versions of Lillebjørn Nilsen-songs. This year there will be Thea & The Wild two festival days in a row, first a concert with Thea's own songs on Friday, and then the band will put on their Lillebjørn Nilsen-hats and play on our children's stage early in the day on Saturday.

ULD
ULD is a fresh trio from Oslo that experiment with improvised music and take their inspiration from folk, indie, jazz and traditional music. They try to write honest lyrics, and let themselves be inspired by Norwegian poets such as Jon Fosse and Gunvor Hofmo, and try to breathe new and modern life into their powerful poems.

VILDE BYE
We try not to repeat ourselves too often, but some artists we bring back year after year, hoping that more are going to discover them and see what we see in them. Vilde Bye from Tromsø is one of them. She is not an artist standing still, this year she brings along a full band on stage, a band of young, promising musicians almost bubbling over from joy of playing.

ÆVESTADEN
The Swedish / Norwegian trio Ævestaden were supposed to play at last year's festival, but had to cancel. Luckily, we get another chance this year. They have released critically-acclaimed records, won awards and really managed to maintain tradition while at the same time pushing the limits towards something new and a little bit different.
• LITTERATURE 2025 •

HERBJØRG WASSMO
Wassmo debuted with a poem collection in 1976, but is most known as a novelist and her «Tora»- and «Dina»-trilogies. Her works have been translated to several languages, and have won awards both nationally and abroad. One of this country's greatest storytellers comes to Egersund Visefestival to take part in several slots.

JOHAN HARSTAD
Johan Harstad from Stavanger has released works in incredibly many genres. His first novel «Buzz Aldrin, hvor ble det av deg i alt mylderet?» might be his most known work, while his latest book, «Under brosteinen, stranden!» is nominated for Nordisk råds litterature prize. He will be interviewed by author colleague Mirjam Indriss and will partake in the reading of «Fest eller kolera».

TORE RENBERG
One of the country's leading writers return to «Okka by». His passion for litterature is what made Egersund Visefestival having litterature on the program for the very first time last year. This year he partakes in the reading of «Fest eller kolera», he will interview author colleague Herbjørg Wassmo and musician Richard Dawson, and he will himself be interviewed by musician Egil Hegerberg.

JANNE STIGEN DRANGSHOLT
Professor in english litterature at the Stavanger University who released her debut novel in 2011. Most known for her humourous book series about Ingrid Winter, and also well known for her popular podcast about the same character, and as host of «Aftenbla-bla». In Egersund she will entertain the audience with «Lyging i litteraturen».

MARJAM IDRISS
Author from Sola in Rogaland, who released her debut novel «Jannikeevangeliet» in 2017, followed by her second novel «Halvt» currently. She will partake in the reading of «Fest eller kolera», and will interview author colleague Johan Harstad on the festival's first day, Thursday.

TØNNES H. GUNDERSEN
The festvival will start with the Egersund Conversation, where Tønnes H. Gundersen will be interviewed by Johan Aakre. Gundersen was born in Egersund, and has studied history and social science in Bergen, and has released several books about both local and international personalities in the last couple of years.
• ART / PODCAST 2025 •

EGON HOLSTAD
Since Autumn 2022, and more than 50 episodes, Egon Holstad's podcast has become increasingly popular, and is the country's largest podcast dedicated entirely to music. Like last year, there will be live recordings of the podcast in front of an audience, in conversations with Kjartan Kristiansen and Thea Glenton Raknes, who both perform at this year's festival.

THE STEVE KEENE ART SHOW
Broolyn-based artist Steve Keene is most known for having made more than 300 000 paintings. He works from morning to evening, producing about 50 pieces of art daily. Steve will be in Egersund from July 1st and throughout the festival to paint pictures. You can come and watch him create his unique art, and also buy paintings as soon as the paint is dry!
